Michel has over 20 years life science research experience in the academic and biotech industry. He has served as scientific advisor and consultant for American and European biotechnology start-up companies; including ChemCon, Integrated Diagnostics, Perkin Elmer and others. His expertise is predominantly focused in early stage biotechnology company development, as well as academic research transfer for product commercialization and the requisite industrial processes required.
He held leadership positions at Caprion Pharmaceuticals, first developing and then directing their sub-cellular fractionation lab as integral component of the proteomics target discovery platform in their Oncology program. He was also involved in defining process flow and responsible for platform integration between departments; from the generation of samples (epithelial cell surface proteins) through to establishment of bioinformatics tools for interpretation of mass spec data, subsequent protein identification, potential target identification, annotation and characterization of hundreds of Oncology Protein Targets for marketing to clients/partners. He is well versed in IP and technology evaluation and review.
Michel's background in Cell Biology and Protein Biochemistry includes significant experience in affinity-based therapeutics and diagnostics. He has been involved in target discovery endeavours using data mining approaches of proteomic and genomic information, to lead selection and optimization in early stages of drug development including preclinical studies.
Previously Michel was co-founder of HyperOmics; an antibody-based diagnostics company specializing in antigen/epitope design, stability assays through antibody production. He managed their Proteomics Target Discovery consulting services (biomarkers and therapeutics target selection using data generated during analysis, biological properties of potential candidates as well as IP search information)
Michel received a PhD from McGill University and was a "Kendall Mayo" Research Fellow at the Mayo Clinic and Foundation.
